W2: Research - Georgia's Library Books

Book 1:
The Picture Book: Contemporary Illustration. Edited by Angus Hyland, 2006.

Liberty Birds. Kate Gibb.
I like the natural colours and brush-stroke quality of this illustration.
Vehicles and Animals. Kam Tang.
This reminds me of our rubbish wave concept. It is interesting how everything contained within the wave is only line drawings.
Untitled. Simone Lia.
I like the rough drawn quality of this illustration and how the text matches this style. I also like how it doesn't need colour to be impactful.
Bird Takes a Walk. Jeremy Tankard.
I like how the bird stands out more just because it has thicker lines, I think it's a simple yet effective technique.
Mythological monsters endpapers from the book Mythological Monsters of Ancient Greece, published by Walker Books, London, 2002. Sara Fanelli.
I like how this illustration looks like it has been drawn on the page of a school workbook/notebook. I want to try this technique in my own concepts.

Book 2:
1000 Illustrations for Children: Amazing Art Made for Kids Books, Products, and Entertainment. By Julia Schonlau, 2013.

Forscherwelt. Henkel/Wonderlabz. By Rilla Alexander, 2011.
I think this is a simple yet appealing way to drawn kids.
Sad Santa, Sterling Books. By Tad Carpenter, 2012.
I like the colour palette in these illustrations. I also like how the subjects have been drawn using simple shapes and blocks of colour.
Autumn Bear, Digital. By Melanie Matthews, 2011.
I like the vector-like style of this illustration.
The Stork, Digital. By Melanie Matthews, 2009.
I like the vector-like style of this illustration and how minimal lines have been used to add detail.
De Boomhut, Lemniscaat. By Marije Tolman, 2012.
I like how most of the image has been drawn in one faded colour, yet the focal point is in bold colours. This is an interesting technique and an effective way to drawn attention to the main part in an image.

Book 3:
Design For Kids: From Victionary Two.

I like the eyes on these fruit characters! It's amazing how a small addition of something like eyes, with consideration put into their placement and size, can make a whole personality.
